Best as I can see, there is no category for Home Renos or Construction, so this will have to do.
I was horrendously disappointed in the service I received from Airdrie Carpet Craft. I'm a new homeowner working to develop my basement myself, and was given their name by my builder, McKee Homes. Upon arriving at their store, I was greeted not with a friendly "hello" but by a young man in his coat "just coming in from a smoke". The salesman did not remove his coat and seemed irritated that I was even there. I explained what I was looking for and was shown a single rack of samples (there were hundreds) and told "This is what you'd want". No explanation for this recommendation, no followup questions to my inquiry.
I then asked him for a rough estimate on cost and again was given an irritated look. You'd think I had asked for his first born. I was given the rough estimate but it didn't matter; I'd already decided to take my business elsewhere. He didn't help matters by openly admitting his installers cut corners ("they don't bother nailing down the carpet anymore, they just use glue"). I think I'd like my carpet installed properly, thanks.
To think this all started with me wanting to support local business rather than go to Home Depot (who had a very similar carpet for half the price). I ended up at Talbot's Floor Coverings in Luxstone this past weekend and had an entirely different experience. I was greeted by a smiling young woman (Dawn, I believe) who was full of helpful advice despite admitting right off the bad that she was new there and still learning. Within 5 minutes, I was talking with the owner himself, Steve. What a guy! He showed me two dozen different types of carpet, extolling the virtues of each. He even grabbed a bottle of water from the minifridge and demonstrated the stain-resistant qualities of the different methods of stain treatment. Incredible!
Where the gentleman at Airdrie Carpet Craft had to be asked for everything, Steve offered it willingly. I didn't have t ask for an estimate, I just got one. I didn't have to ask for an appointment to have him bring by samples and measure for a more accurate quote, he just offered. That's the kind of service I expect from a company in the SERVICE INDUSTRY. Is it too much to ask? I don't think so, and Talbot's Floor Coverings seems to agree.
