My grandparents in Arizona recently sent my cousin and I Christmas packages via UPS Shipping. My grandmother sent both packages on the same day, at the same time and from the same place. The packages were to be shipped December 4th and were to arrive December 13th. My cousin just happens to live directly across the street from my house and she received her package on time. Mine however took a ridiculous trip back and forth between Canada and the US for 16 days.
Without going into huge detail I can tell you that in total, my package was scanned 36 times, in 8 different cities – some as far away as New Brunswick, held in customs 4 times and was "missed at the destination location" (in other words: the driver forgot he had it in his truck) and was delayed even longer when it did find it’s way to the right city. My cousins’ parcel went from Arizona, to Salt Lake City, to Richmond B.C then arrived in Calgary.
When my parcel actually did arrive it was a full week late and to my surprise it was left on my front porch when I was not home to receive it. Now usually I wouldn’t complain my packages arrived late, but I think that leaving a parcel that has a label clearly listing the contents complete with a letter detailing the $ worth of each item is more than unacceptable. If my parcel had been stolen off of my porch, they would have just told me that it was delivered and no longer their problem. I called UPS to see if it was normal for them to just leave packages on doorsteps and they said that they leave it up to the driver’s digression on weather or not the neighborhood is safe enough to leave it there. I would have understood if they had tried numerous times to deliver but were unable to but they never even visited my house once to try to deliver it before they just abandoned it! Even Canada Post won’t just leave your parcel on your doorstep!
I truly believe that my grandparents should been reimbursed for the shipped costs (because it wasn’t cheep!). Why bother paying more to ship with a company who claims to get there on time and safely if they can’t even uphold that promise?
Oh, and just for fun I went to the Map Quest web site and found out how many time my grandparents could have driven here before my package actually arrive; the total was 16.5
